Marble, like granite, is a completely natural stone, and has many similar qualities. Marble ages beautifully, with an authentic and antique look. It is a bit more porous than other countertop options, and is susceptible to staining if not properly sealed and treated.

Quartzite, which is predominantly silica, is a hard non-foliated metamorphic rock. It was originally sandstone. Sandstone is converted into quartzite through heating and pressure related to tectonic compression. It makes a perfect choice for kitchen countertops because chemically it has a very high resistance to anything acidic. It does require sealing.

Quartz countertops are an engineered (man-made) product. They are manufactured by combining natural quartz minerals using a resin binder, resulting in a very hard surface that is non-porous. This means that quartz is very resistant to staining, and does not require sealing.

Travertine is a natural stone, with a varied and luxurious appearance, typically in light colors of ivory, cream, walnut and beige. Because of its durability it is often used for floors and bathrooms, but is gaining popularity for kitchen countertops, walls and other uses throughout the home.

Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed at the ocean floor by minerals and fragments of marine organisms, leading to a very unique and varied composition. Limestone will give a warm, natural feeling to any room, and is a great choice for kitchens, bathrooms or exterior uses.

Soapstone is primarily characterized by a soapy sensation when touched, soapstone has high talc content. The color of soapstone ranges greatly depending upon the type of soapstone used. Over time, natural soapstone develops a natural patina. The material is stain, chemical and water resistant but scratches easily. To care for Soapstone, simply clean with water.

Slate has a distinctive cleft pattern and is usually uniform in color. There are different shades of slate include green, black, dark red, gray or even mottled purple. Slate is a soft stone, waterproof and long lasting, recommended for fireplace surroundings. Rinse with water and air dry for best results.
